Seicomart Gives Its Rusk Line a Savory Turn

The Hokkaido-based konbini chain adds consommé to a snack line better known for its sweet flavors.

Seicomart has added Secoma Rusk Consommé to its popular rusk line, bringing another savory option to a range that has generally leaned sweet.

Secoma’s rusks are popular for their crisp texture, generous 90-gram portions and low price. Secoma Rusk Consommé costs ¥149 in Hokkaido and ¥159 in Ibaraki and Saitama, including tax.

The new snack has a rich, savory consommé flavor, with a crisp texture and toasted notes from the rusk itself. Seicomart says the flavor was developed in response to customer requests for a savory addition to the series.

The lineup has mostly featured dessert-like flavors, with Secoma Rusk Sugar and Secoma Rusk Maple currently on sale. Savory varieties are not entirely new, however: a Garlic flavor has also appeared in the series in the past.

Secoma Rusk Consommé went on sale Sept. 14 at Seicomart stores in Hokkaido, Ibaraki and Saitama, with Hasegawa Store, Taiei and Hamanasu Club locations following on Sept. 16.
